The Quarter’s metamorphisis from an almost totally manufacturing base into a creative village started in the year 2000. The balance of developing a mixed community,whilst retaining the area’s unique jewellery trade, has been a delicate one and there have been many challenges along the way with planning issues at the forefront.
Andy Munro led the regeneration of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter for over ten years and consequently his talks provide a fascinating insight into the ‘ups and downs’ of a regeneration project and the many issues that needed to be tackled. In working closely with the 1,000 plus businesses, he also provides an entertaining insight into the often secret world of the Quarter and its jewellery trade.

Andy was born and bred in the Balti Triangle and his ‘balti baptism’ stretches back many years into the seventies. Author of several Curry Guides, he has led the campaign to have the ‘Birmingham Balti’ acknowledged as unique(currently an application is with the EU). In his talk ,he uncovers the mystique behind Birmingham’s famous dish and how it sprung to prominence…and maybe even discloses a recipe or two!
